Free missions, when activated, can be anything from short races, to dodging so many cars, to drifts, jumps and so on – and they are randomly generated for you and your Crew for as long as you like. One of the best new aspects though was the ability to hop into free missions or create your own races on the fly. Drift courses are all about scoring points rather than winning the race, and anyone that has played a drift event in just about any other racer will be right at home here. Drag racing involves minimal steering and is more like a mini-game that sees you having to heat up your tyres, time your gear shifts and perfect when you hit the nitro to win. The monster truck events are basically giant stunt courses, almost like massive skater parks, that see you pulling off tricks and grabbing coins to amass points. Every vehicle has a bunch of makes, models and options as well as a host of races and challenges available or you can just hop in one and tool around America, its your call.Īssuming you have a Crew of players already you can invite them to take part in any new events by simply highlighting it on the map and joining, which will invite all your posse to join too, though they are free to ignore you and do your own thing. The specific vehicle types are drift cars, mainly styled around famous Japanese models, Monster Trucks, which have the ability to flip and spin so you can perform stunts, drag racers, for high octane strip races (replete with parachutes to slow down) and motorcycles, which seem like they should have been present all along. New areas and vehicles have also been added to the game, so you can scope out new locales and take in new missions. The rain effects were spot on, and as you drive out of the clouds and it starts to heat up, the road will go from being slick, to having small puddles appear. New weather effects have been added too, so you can expect rain and snow to randomly interrupt proceedings and they can dramatically impact the handling of your vehicle as you would expect. All of the patches are in place and the game has been given an extra graphical overhaul that makes it look vastly better than it did a year ago. The first thing you notice is just how much better The Crew looks in Wild Run. Sounds like a decent deal, but what exactly does the Wild Run add? Quite a lot it seems.
For those that never bought The Crew first time around, possibly due to one of more of the aforementioned reasons, there will be a Wild Run Edition of the game that includes the original title plus all of the DLC released so far as well as the hefty Wild Run add-on. However, it seems that Ubisoft has tried to see the error of their ways and the Wild Run expansion may just be good enough to make the whole experience seem worth the price of entry.
The always online requirement, freezing issues, drab story and strange glitches meant that while it was decent, it was never truly spectacular and the less said about microtransactions the better. The Crew was never going to live up to the hype, presented as it was as a massive open world racing RPG that you could play with your buddies.
